Between receiving submissions, editing, and then formatting, it took a couple of years before the first edition was. The Project Dermatillomania logo was created by first-book contributor Andrea Castek, who has her own design company Andi’s Invites (listed in the first book by its former name AC Design). The first of those, Project Dermatillomania: The Stories Behind Our Scars, began as an idea in 2012 and is an anthology of works from people who live with excoriation (skin-picking) disorder (also called dermatillomania). ![]() The series is officially published by Scarred Narratives Publishing, a company created by Barton. Project Dermatillomania includes written stories, poetry, visual artwork, and images from several skin pickers across the globe and they hope that sharing our stories will help others feel like they are not alone in dealing with this disorder. The books are a collaborative effort between Barton and the contributors with a sharing of ideas every step of the way to ensure that everyone is happy with the books. ![]() She posted the idea in one of the Facebook awareness groups to see if there was any interest, was overwhelmed by the response, and so began working right away. She wanted to share her own story, but she also feels like the voices of many individuals together will strengthen the idea of community.
